Vedic Maths Sutras

About the Swamiji Who Constructed the Vedic Maths Sutras

His Holiness  Sri Sri  BHARATI  KRISHNA TEERTA  Swamiji had held the exalted position of Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Govardhana Math, Puri.  He was the first Shankaracharya to travel abroad.  He has written many books.  'Sanatana Dharma' written by him explains the scientific background of various rituals and religious practices of Hindus and is very useful.

Swamiji was born in the year 1884 in Tinnavely of Tamilnadu.  He was named venkataramana.  He was a brilliant student, used to stand first in every class.  Madras Samskrita Sangha had con fired on him the title of Saraswati for his mastery in Samskrita language during his matriculation itself.  Venkataramana Saraswati after finishing his B.A. appeared for M.A. Degrees in the year 1904 at the bombay Center of American College of Sciences.  At the young age of only 20 years he has secured seven M.A. degrees simultaneously.  This record of academic brilliance in the world is not surpassed by nay one even now.  His subjects of study included Mathematics, Sanskrita, English philosophy, Science and History.

Sri Venkataramana Saraswati, though a scientist and a mathematician, his interest  was in philosophy.  After his extensive study of the scriptures, he is initiated into sanyasa and named as Sri Sri Bharatikrishna Teerta.  Later he becomes the Shankaracharya of Govardhana Math,  Puri.  After taking sanyasa, he continues his study of the scriptures in Sringeri of karnataka for 8 years.  During this period by meditating upon the Vedas in the woods, he formulates sixteen simple Sutras of Vedic Mathematics.  According to the swamiji, these 16 Sutras containing only 120 words are constructed out of mathematics present in Appendix of the Atharva Veda.  He had written 16 volumes on Vedic Mathematics applying these sutras in Various branches of Mathematics applying these sutras in various branches of Mathematics.

Along with religious and Vedantic discourses Sri Swamiji has popularised Vedic Maths during his tour of the country and abroad.  In the fifties while in abroad, he delivered lectures on Vedic Mathematics in the American and European Universities.  When he learn t that all his 16 volumes are lost, he started rewriting the same.  But he could write only one volume of introduction.  His health failed and returned to the motherland.  In the year 1960 he went into Maha Samadhi.  After 5 years of his demise one of his disciples published the re-written book on Vedic Maths.  This is a great treasure to the mankind.  This has revoluntionary capacity in the scientific field.  16 Sutras are very easy, simple and swamiji has shown in this book the very fast method of application of these sutras.  After going through this book, one wonders the unimaginable and the greatest benefit that could have been derived by the world if the earlier 16 volumes were to be available.  Sri  Bharatikrishna  Swamiji's gift to the scientific world is great and invaluable.

Many many salutations to the Great soul.
